- How often does a living wall need maintenance?
- Most living walls need a maintenance visit every four to eight weeks, with the frequency set by the planting, the season, and whether the wall is interior or exterior. New walls need closer attention during the first few months while plants establish. A typical visit covers pruning and replanting any gaps, checking and adjusting the irrigation, feeding, and inspecting for pests or disease. We agree a tailored schedule for each wall rather than applying a fixed interval.
- Can you install a living wall on a high-rise or commercial tower?
- Yes. Our anchor point–free abseil technique lets our trained operatives install and maintain high-level walls from a flat rooftop, without scaffolding, cherry pickers, or fixed anchor points. This avoids the cost and disruption of traditional access and makes living walls feasible on tall buildings and constrained urban sites.
- Do living walls work indoors as well as outdoors?
- They do. Interior walls use shade-tolerant species suited to indoor light levels and are often paired with supplementary lighting and a closed irrigation loop. We select the system and planting to match the light, temperature, and humidity of the specific room, whether it is a reception, atrium, or office space.
- What does a living wall cost to install?
- Cost depends on the wall size, the system chosen, the plant species, the irrigation design, and access requirements. Because we work from a rooftop on tall buildings rather than hiring scaffolding, access costs are often lower than clients expect. We provide a fixed quote after a site survey so the price reflects your building rather than a generic rate.
- What happens if some plants die after installation?
- Some replanting is normal as a wall establishes and as it responds to its specific conditions. Our maintenance visits include replacing failed plants and adjusting the species mix where part of the wall consistently underperforms, so the wall fills in and stays even over time.
- Can you maintain a living wall installed by another company?
- Yes. We regularly take over walls built by other contractors. We start with an inspection of the structure, irrigation, and planting, identify any problems, and then put the wall onto a regular maintenance schedule using the same access methods we use on our own installations.
